Using PDF output

I have tried several times to produce PDF output and found that each time the result was nothing more than a pixel based image embedded within a PDF file. The way i tested it was to bring the PDF into Adobe Illustrator which supports PDF format. In fact AI files are PDF files. Yet all i got was a single image whose "components" were not editable. The site claims that the generated PDF files are scalable vectors, yet i find they are not editable in AI. If the test i'm doing is wrong, can someone share with me an appropriate validation of PDF output?

I am providing a sample cdy and pdf file that shows the resulting pdf remains as a single object. I tried "expand" followed by "ungroup" using CS6 to no avail.

jcfried,

indeed I am able to edit files in AI. You have to use the direct selection tool (sorry, my Illustrator version runs in German, it is called Direktauswahl-Werkzeug? there, with shortcut A), not the selection tool, though. The file scales to any size. Can you post an example output file here for me to check what is going wrong?

Ulli
